The day is starts out with European markets in the red due to rising yields in Spain and a general strike in Greece. Additionally, in Italy retail sales for July were down -0.2% on a monthly basis and -3.2 percent annually.

Greek General Strike Marks First Test for Samaras’s Coalition – Greeks opposed to more wage cuts and austerity are staging a general strike today that will be the first test of the public mood toward budget measures Prime Minister Antonis Samaras said are vital to keep the euro.
